TMJ Disorder Treatment in Dubai
- Russian-speaking doctors
- Team-based TMJ treatment under one roof
- DHA-licensed doctors in Dubai
At Zenon Dental Clinic, we treat TMJ disorders of any complexity — from early symptoms to advanced cases. If you notice clicking, pain near the ear, or migraines, we invite you to visit us: we will perform diagnostics, identify the root cause, and begin treatment.
If you are planning comprehensive treatment (implants, veneers, etc.), we always check the condition of the TMJ during diagnostics.
It is important to understand that restorations such as veneers, crowns, and implants should be performed only with a stable bite. After TMJ rehabilitation, further treatment may include orthodontics, prosthetics, or a combination — depending on the clinical situation.
Each case is reviewed by a team of specialists: orthodontist, gnathologist, and prosthodontist. This ensures accurate diagnosis and an optimal treatment plan. At Zenon Dental Clinic, we provide comprehensive care and guide patients through every stage — from TMJ dysfunction to a stable result and an aesthetic smile.

What Is TMJ Disorder Treatment?
The temporomandibular joint (TMJ) is located in front of the ear and connects the lower jaw to the skull. It allows us to open and close the mouth, chew, speak, and yawn.
TMJ dysfunction is a disorder of the dentofacial system in which the chewing muscles and the joint become overloaded, leading to impaired jaw movement.
Symptoms may include:
- Clicking or grinding
- Pain when chewing
- A feeling of tension
- Difficulty opening the mouth wide
- Tooth wear
- Pain near the ear or in the temples
- Headaches
To accurately determine the cause of these symptoms, we perform functional diagnostics using TENS and axiography. This allows us to identify the correct position of the lower jaw and evaluate how the TMJ functions — both at rest and in motion.

Indications for TMJ Treatment
If you experience any of the following symptoms, we recommend booking a consultation with a gnathologist:
- Pain in the TMJ area near the ear (may radiate to the cheek or temple)
- Clicking or grinding in the jaw, sometimes with a feeling of locking or uneven movement
- Teeth grinding or strong clenching at night, with morning muscle tension and fatigue
- Frequent headaches, especially in the temples or forehead
- Difficulty opening the mouth wide
- Jaw deviation when opening
- Unstable bite (no consistent comfortable position)
- Rapid tooth wear, chips, cracks, or damage to fillings, crowns, or veneers
First Consultation
The initial appointment lasts about 1 hour. This is not just a basic check-up — it is a full functional diagnostic session to understand the condition of the TMJ, chewing muscles, and bite.
Without comprehensive diagnostics, only part of the problem can be seen, making it easy to miss the true cause of TMJ dysfunction.
This 3D imaging helps us evaluate:
- the structure of the TMJ
- the presence of asymmetry
- areas of overload
- the position of anatomical structures affecting bite stability and treatment planning
In simple terms, we assess the “foundation” of your bite.
There are only two CBCT systems in the UAE with an extended scanning range (skull, TMJ, cervical spine): one in our clinic and one at the University of Sharjah. The system provides highly accurate data with minimal radiation exposure.
We create a precise digital impression (without uncomfortable traditional materials), resulting in an accurate model of the jaw.
This allows us to:
- analyze tooth contacts
- evaluate bite height
- detect jaw deviations from the correct trajectory
Using specialized software, we analyze the 3D model from multiple angles and determine the optimal treatment approach: orthodontics (aligners/braces), prosthetics (veneers/crowns), or a combination.
We use TENS and axiography for advanced diagnostics. These technologies complement digital diagnostics and allow us to evaluate how the entire dentofacial system functions in motion.
- TENS relaxes chewing muscles and helps determine the physiologically correct jaw position
- Axiography records the movement of the lower jaw and evaluates TMJ function
These data complement static CBCT and intraoral scan results.
This way, we design not only how your teeth will look when closed, but also how you will feel with your new bite — ensuring comfort while chewing and eliminating pain, clicking, and muscle tension.
A smile and facial expressions cannot always be fully assessed during a standard oral examination.
We record:- smile dynamics
- jaw movement during opening and closing
- functional habits (e.g., jaw shifting, clenching)
- signs of muscle tension
After diagnostics, we prepare a preliminary treatment plan:
- define priorities (what needs to be addressed now vs later)
- explain all treatment stages and sequence
- provide timelines and cost
Why It’s Important to Treat TMJ Dysfunction
Reduced overload of the chewing muscles and temporomandibular joint (TMJ), leading to less discomfort in the jaw and temples
Correct bite alignment — the lower jaw takes a comfortable and physiologically correct position, restoring proper tooth contacts
Reduced bruxism — less nighttime clenching and grinding due to decreased muscle tension
Protection of teeth and restorations — even load distribution reduces wear and extends the lifespan of veneers and crowns
Stable aesthetics — a beautiful smile lasts longer when the entire dentofacial system functions properly
TMJ treatment requires time and discipline.
At the initial stage, a splint (orthotic) is used to relieve stress on the TMJ and establish the correct position of the lower jaw.
It is important to understand: this is not just wearing an appliance — it is a process of retraining the chewing muscles.
Gradually, the muscles adapt to a new physiological position, reducing tension and overload.
Further treatment is carried out step by step to stabilize the result — both the muscles and the bite must adapt to the new jaw position.
Doctor’s Opinion
Prosthodontist, Gnathologist
“Patients often come seeking aesthetics — to look good in photos. But it’s important to understand: everything functional is beautiful. If function is compromised, a truly aesthetic result can only be achieved after TMJ treatment.“

To understand how we eliminate the root cause of TMJ dysfunction, it’s important to understand our approach.
First We “Set the System”, Then Align the Teeth
Imagine the jaw as a door, and the TMJ and chewing muscles as hinges. If the hinges are misaligned, repainting the door won’t help — it will still creak and close improperly.
That’s why we first relieve TMJ overload, relax the chewing muscles, and retrain them to function correctly.
Only after that do we proceed with orthodontic correction and finalize the result with restorations (veneers/crowns).
Neuromuscular Evaluation — Because Bite Is Not Just Teeth
Many people think bite is simply how teeth come together. In reality, that is the final result — while the “director” is your chewing muscles and jaw position.
To assess this accurately, we perform neuromuscular diagnostics using TENS and axiography. This allows us to evaluate muscle function in a relaxed state and analyze jaw movement dynamically.
We analyze:
- how chewing muscles function at rest and in motion
- whether they pull the jaw to one side
- causes of clicking, spasms, wear, headaches, or tension
In other words, we identify why the lower jaw has shifted from its correct position.
Digital Precision — No Guesswork
In gnathology, precision is essential.
We use:
- 3D scanning to create an accurate virtual model of the teeth
- CBCT to visualize the TMJ in detail
- bite registration protocols to analyze real occlusion
The idea is simple: we don’t guess — we measure, understand, and treat with precision.
Personalized Treatment Approach
A splint is not a one-size-fits-all solution. Its design depends on:
- how your jaw moves
- which chewing muscles are overloaded
- how the TMJ responds
- your individual biomechanics
We take all of this into account when planning treatment based on diagnostic results.
Why TMJ Therapy Must Be Done Before Aesthetic Procedures
Teeth are part of a larger system: TMJ, chewing muscles, and jaw movement.
If aesthetic treatment is performed without addressing underlying functional issues, the result may be unstable.
Possible consequences:
- a feeling of incorrect bite
- relapse of tooth position
- overload and chipping of veneers or crowns
- worsening bruxism and headaches
- tension and discomfort in the jaw
Comprehensive Treatment Under One Roof
An orthodontist alone cannot determine the correct jaw position without a gnathologist.
And without a prosthodontist, it is impossible to restore proper tooth anatomy to stabilize the orthodontic result. That’s why a team approach is essential.
At Zenon Dental Clinic, Dr. Nana’s team includes an experienced gnathologist with prosthodontic expertise — allowing us to treat even the most complex cases.
The Choice of Those Who Expect the Best
TMJ Treatment as Part of International Quality Standards
Orthodontic treatment at Zenon Dental Clinic follows internationally recognized clinical protocols to ensure both aesthetic results and long-term oral health.
we are ahead of many clinics in Dubai by an average of 10–15 years. In short, we do not focus on fast and cheap solutions — we focus on quality treatment that considers jaw function.
3D scanning, CBCT, clinical functional analysis, bite registration, and neuromuscular diagnostics. This allows us not to treat “blindly,” but to understand why the jaw shifts, which muscles are overloaded, and how the TMJ responds to stress.
patients don’t need to move between different doctors or clinics. Care is provided by one coordinated team—a gnathologist, orthodontist, and prosthodontist. Every stage is connected, with shared responsibility for the final result.

Our Gnathologists & Dental Team
keep your jaw in a resting position — lips closed, teeth slightly apart, tongue gently resting against the palate
monitor head position — forward head posture (e.g., when working at a computer) significantly increases muscle tension
quality sleep and stress control help reduce bruxism (nighttime clenching)
if you notice clicking, morning stiffness, or frequent headaches, it’s better to book a consultation early
avoid chewing ice, nuts, or pencils; limit constant gum chewing
do not use your teeth to open packages or support your chin with your hand while working or reading
control the range when yawning widely to avoid overstretching TMJ ligaments
